The last few weeks have really flown by! The launch of Cast of Cards over at DriveThruRPG went incredibly well, and despite a snafu with Vampire Castle (I didn’t order a physical proof before requesting activation, meaning only the PDF was initially active), the whole process has been smooth. We even got our first good review, thanks Roleplayers Chronicle!
One of the points that Aaron made in his review was about printing out the Cast of Cards PDFs. We’ve offered them as a one-card-per-page PDF on DriveThru because we believe that gives customers greater ability to use the cards as they see fit. While we could set up the PDF version on 8.5×11 pages, that really locks in how the digital version can be used and we want to give our buyers more power than that. So how do you go about printing multiple cards per sheet of paper? Here’s a quick how-to when using Adobe Acrobat.
I’m using the Cast of Cards: King’s Castle deck as an example (I’m also using a Mac, but the process is basically the same on a Windows machine). With the PDF open, go File>Print. In the print dialog window, find the “Page Scaling” option, and select “Multiple pages per sheet.”
From here, you have multiple options such as pages per sheet and the direction to order them in (vertical or horizontal). As shown below, I’ve selected 6 pages (cards) per sheet, in vertical order. This makes the top row the stat side of the card and the bottom row the text side.
Further, using standard options like print range, you can print only the sides you need or the individual cards you need. Only need that stat side? No problem! Only need select cards out of the deck? You got it.
Of course, I prefer DriveThru’s printed option for the cards. The printing is stellar and the cards are dry-erase compatible, making tracking of Wounds quite easy. Deal the cards and dive the dungeon!
That wraps up my first Words of Warning blog post! Updates will be randomly made (hey, got cards to make!), but do stick around! We’ll have more, I promise.
